What does a "Ranch" supplier type mean?

A "Ranch" supplier type indicates a cow/calf ranch that, at minimum, has individual age groups approved for Source and Age through our off-site desk audit process (record review and phone evaluation). The only claim reviewed and approved in this manner is Source and Age.

"Ranch" suppliers may also be approved through our on-site audit process for additional claims above and beyond Source and Age. These are: Non-Hormone Treated Cattle, Verified Natural Beef, Grass Fed, and/or Verified Green. All calves marketed under these claims must be approved on-site and have a Program Compliant Tag (PCT) applied prior to shipping. In order to maintain an approval status for claims above and beyond Source and Age, the group must move through locations also approved for those claims.

Only home-raised calves can be approved for "Ranch" suppliers.

What type of documentation should I see from this type of supplier?

Off-site Source and Age Group Approvals: All Source and Age group approvals are issued a Source and Age Certificate of Approval (click here to see an example). All groups marketed as source and age approved should be accompanied with this approval document and, when applicable, a Program Compliant Tag Manifest.

On-site Location Approvals: All locations approved on-site for claims above and beyond Source and Age are required to send a Ship Card with each load indicating the claim(s) the approved cattle represent. Cattle must also be accompanied with a Tag Manifest indicating the individual Program Compliant Tag numbers of the approved group. If cattle are approved for any of the additional claims mentioned above, but are marketed as SAV only, the same documentation is still required. An approval certificate will not be issued from the IMI office; a Ship Card must come from the producer.

If cattle have arrived without the appropriate documents, please contact the approved supplier to obtain them. If you are having difficulty obtaining these documents from the approved supplier, please contact IMI Global at (866) 395-5883.
